Iron Philips GC4555/80 Azur: review, specifications, pros/cons, reviews

The Philips GC4555/80 Azur steam iron with a special SmartFlow soleplate has a 2400 W heating element, so it heats up to operating temperature almost instantly.

A narrowed "nose" allows you to comfortably iron clothes with a large number of folds. But at the same time, it has a light weight, the sole area is increased (compared to standard Philips models), so it can be used to iron a large number of things: the hand does not get tired, and due to the constant steam supply system, wet spots or wrinkles do not remain.

Functionality Philips GC4555/80 Azur

The Philips GC4555/80 Azur iron has the following features:4458

  1. Smooth temperature control. The handle has special ribs that protrude to the side, which allows it to be turned with one hand, which holds the iron.
  2. Continuous supply of steam. You can press a button, you can fix it. The Smart Flow soleplate provides optimal heating so that steam is distributed evenly, without leaving wet spots on clothes, and at the same time without splashing water (works as an anti-drip system).
  3. Smooth adjustment of the density of the supplied steam. It is regulated by a handle located on the liquid tank itself.
  4. Steam attack. Not adjustable. But it can also be used as a vertical steamer.
  5. Water spray function (through a nozzle placed on the container itself).
  6. Scale protection. Behind the sole there is a special container for collecting scale. But it is rarely necessary to clean it, as practice shows.The container is held on a special latch, it is impossible to move it to the side (since the tank itself is “recessed” into the body).

Distinctive features of the model

The key distinguishing feature of the Philips GC4555/80 Azur is the Smart Flow soleplate with an increased number of nozzles, due to which steam is supplied with a minimum pressure evenly over the entire area. This just prevents the formation of drops, the appearance of scale directly on the sole.

Also, the power cable is mounted on a swivel (moves only in a vertical plane) connection. Therefore, it does not interfere during ironing, does not curl. And a thickening is made in the upper part, which protects it from mechanical damage or burning of the protective insulation.

The "nose" of the sole in the forefoot has a narrow transition. This makes it easier to smooth out small wrinkles, improves slip, and also prevents burning (since the density of nozzles located there is higher).

And all the characteristics of the iron are complemented by its light weight due to the use of special porous ABS plastic in the production of the case (it is also resistant to heat). And despite its massive dimensions, the iron is really convenient to use. Also included with it is a special metal stand.

Visually, the iron looks quite massive. But this is due to the fact that behind the container for collecting scale. The sole itself is traditional in size. That is, suitable for shirts and children's things.45656

By the way, the sole is replaceable. Yes, for this you need to partially disassemble the body of the iron, but the very fact that the manufacturer has provided for this possibility is definitely a plus. The iron will not last more than 1 year. The standard warranty is 12 months.

Pros and cons of the model

Summarizing all the available information directly from customers, we can highlight the following advantages of the Philips GC4555/80 Azur iron:

  1. Very light. But at the same time with a sole of a standard area.
  2. Swivel power cable. Doesn't get in the way while ironing.
  3. A large number of nozzles on the sole. Steam is supplied with less pressure, more evenly, without leaving wet marks on clothes.
  4. Heats up quickly.
  5. There is protection against scale.
  6. There is protection against accidental tipping or overheating when the iron is in a horizontal position (turns off after 20 - 30 seconds when the internal sensor is triggered).

There are also disadvantages, albeit quite minor:

  • inconvenient to pour water;
  • sometimes the button for continuous steam supply jams;
  • it is not possible to visually control how much water is left in the tank, so you have to periodically “refuel” directly during ironing.

Customer Reviews

The Philips GC4555/80 Azur iron is one of the most “successful” models of the manufacturer. It is relatively inexpensive, it has ceramic coating only on the “nose” (exclusively to improve glide), there are no masses of additional unclaimed functions.But at the same time, with its main task - ironing clothes, it copes perfectly.

She herself uses a steam station at home, also from Philips. I bought this iron for my mom. She also wanted to have a steamer, but not such a massive and expensive device. We tried this iron - great for our purposes. Basically, you have to iron cotton. I do not notice any wet spots or wrinkles after it. Mom has been using it for more than 6 months, I have not noticed any marks on the sole. Yesterday I also opened the scum container, everything is clean there. I definitely recommend buying. For such money, it is simply impossible to find something better, except perhaps a steam station, but this is a technique of a completely different category.

In total, the Philips GC4555/80 Azur iron is an excellent versatile option for those who often use such equipment, as well as steaming. There is no digital control here, the design is simple, traditional for Philips. But due to this, it is quite inexpensive, which explains its universal popularity.
